For many years, the only solution for patients who had lost all or most of their teeth was unsecured dentures. Dentures do help those who have lost all or several teeth, enabling them to eat and speak more clearly. But many conventional denture-wearers report that they come with their own set of problems.
The most common complaint is dentures that do not fit properly. Advances in denture technology have made them fit more snuggly, but over time this problem does still arise. The problem with unsecured dentures is that while they replace the teeth, they do nothing to support the bone and tissues beneath. Over time the bone is resorbed (recedes) and the gums shrink back, meaning dentures that once fitted well become loose. This can cause problems with speech, with eating and with soreness as the denture rubs the gums. You might even fear your denture will fall out if you laugh!
At Dental Excellence we offer comfortable precision dentures for both existing denture patients and patients who are new to dentures. A perfect solution for many is implant-secured dentures.
Implant-secured dentures use a small number of dental implants (osteoconductive titanium screws) placed in the jaw bone on to which your dentures are permanently attached. The implants act like natural tooth roots, integrating with and helping to preserve the bone, whilst also keeping your dentures securely attached, meaning you can speak, eat and laugh with confidence.
The initial cost of implant-secured dentures will be more than conventional dentures, but we believe this is outweighed by the increased quality of life experience and the fact that, with proper care, your implant-secured dentures should last much longer than conventional dentures, and mean that you will experience fewer problems with your dentures and will need to replace them or have them adjusted less frequently. You can also wave goodbye to denture pastes for life.
